Just an Update

Hey all! Just a quick update before I get a few things done... (messy room, laundry~ so exciting AMIRIGHT??)

I know that, so far, this blog is shaping up to be realllly geared towards fashion only, but I promise that is not my intention. I definitely will be posting about other stuff (food, thoughts, art, travel, life in general) this is just where I've been right now in terms of inspiration. Actually, I have some things in the works, but I'm not quite ready to share. ;) Anyways, just an update on the Affordable Fashion post I made the other day: I've gotten some feedback that the original outfit from Free People wasn't all that ourtrageous when you look at the individual pieces, and the quality (the shoes are real leather.) That's totally true! The prices are actually fairly reasonable, even though they add up pretty quick. However, if you're on a budget, or just trying to get more for your dollar, that was just an example of a really easy way to get the same look for a small price. Because, at the end of the day, we all want to make our money stretch. (be a responsible consumer, etc, etc...) Oh, and don't forget to donate your old clothes when you have to make room in your closet for all of your shawweeet new steals!
That being said, I do really love all of the original FP items, AND if you want a piece that you know will last, they've got your back. So, considering that I posted about them over 24 hours ago, I was super pleased to see the same hat featured in a post over on Refinery 29 today! Yay for foresight and being ahead of the game! It's featured in a slideshow compilation of the latest up and coming trends in a "Broke Girls Guide to Spring Shopping."
The espadrilles on slide 6 are to die for, and I think that the Pineapple Jute Tote Bag is adorable!
In case you've never heard of it, Refinery 29 is an online magazine that focuses on a wide variety of subjects, including Fashion, Beauty, and Wellness. Their articles are usually very well written, and the fact that they're based online makes it very easy to follow up on featured trends, and the like. I follow them on Facebook, and their daily features always offer a pleasant change from all of the reddit.com articles that are scattered throughout my newsfeed. Their food posts always make me hungry :) :)
ta ta for now

The Oscars, Falling for Fashion, and Just Plain Falling...

Hi all! Normally I'm not one to watch the Oscars, but this year. . .  I still didn't.  Here's to staying true to form, and periodically refreshing the google search of category winners while watching some other program on netflix.

Oh. And browsing all of the best dressed lists. Personally, I like this method the best, because then you don't have to sit through the whole ta-dah that is celebrities walking out of their cars, down a carpet that is, (let's be real here,) really more of a burgundy than it is red, and into a photo-op. I mean, why would you watch them posing for pictures, when you can just look at the actual pictures. This way you don't have to see all of the fashion faux-pas that end up on the what-not-to-wear-to-the-Oscars list (we are already told "what not to do" enough, no?) and get straight to the goodstuff. Unless you enjoy that kind of thing, in which case, I urge you to look into Liza Minnelli's blue pantsuit, under which, apparently, she was going commando (see here.) I'm not even sure how credible that last part is, but pardon me while I scream inwardly and attempt to delete that memory forever. Or or OR... Sharon Osbourne sporting a big black umbrella that would put Mary Poppins to shame, in perfectly clear weather. Oh, it was a parasol you say? Well, that explains it... except for the fact that it was night time. Literally so confused. But back to the good stuff. Such as...

This moment of absolute beauty from Lupita. I swear she is not of this world in this picture. The  magical ocean nymph.
                          J Law                                               Emma Watson
Two incredible beautiful, incredibly smart, incredibly talented women. They are my absolute favorites.
An update on Jennifer Lawrence:

To recap: She arrived, she fell (again), she was still (if not more) glamorous.

Lastly, I'd like to thank the Academy.
That is all.

Hey all! I've had my eye on this super flouncy + fabulous midi shift from Free People for a while, and in my travels on the interweb (i.e. online shopping) over the past couple of days, I happened to stumble upon a very similar dress over on Forever 21's website... for a fourth of the price! The picture doesn't really do it justice- it sort of looks like there's a loose-pencil-skirt thing happening, but the skirt actually has a fairly nice flare to it. Now, don't get me wrong, I love FP as much as the next gal, and this is a beautiful dress, but after looking at the other items pictured on the FP model (see above), I knew it would be easy to find a match over at F21.  So, I did some digging, and this (again, see above) is    what I came up with:

        FP
Dress: Mille Feuille Dress, in watermelon- $88
Sandals: Second Nature Sandal, in mocha- $68
Hat: Lola Lace Hat, in ivory- $28

        Forever 21
Dress: Crepe Woven Midi Dress, in coral- $22.80
Sandals: Must-Have Buckles Sandals, in brown- $32.80
Hat: Keep Cool Straw Sun Hat, in natural/black- $14.80
Bracelets: Classic Double Band Cuff- $7.80, Romantic Open Cuff- $4.80, Geo Cutout Cuff- $4.80
Rings: Twisted Rhinestoned Cross Ring Set- $3.80

*I'm not sure exactly what jewelry is on the FP model, so I just picked a few bangles, cuffs, and rings from F21 that looked "Free People-esque." All jewelry is in gold.

Oh, and let's not forget the Grand Total for the F21 outfit: $91.60
This is actually super awkward because I added it up before to put the "$88" in the collage... but I added one of the $4.80 bracelets twice, instead of the $7.80 cuff... oh well.

So, there you have it! An entire outfit for the same price as the dress that originally inspired it. < Let's just pretend that I did my math right the first time here, for emphasis. Because "an entire outfit for $3 more than" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Oh, and just in case anyone is curious, the total for the Free People outfit was *whips out calculator phone because math* $184. And that's NOT including the jewelry that I couldn't identify.

Well, that's it!

Until next time, Sallie

Hello, Radiant Sunflowers!

Hi All! I'm Sallie! I'm new to blogging, so I guess this is my obligatory "first post" post. I've yet to fully set up my blog (aka make it look pretty) but I thought introductions were in order. This is my lifestyle blog, and I'll be posting about (the obvious) life + style, as well as art, food, the occasional DIY, and other rad stuff. Basically, everything that is The Cat's Pajamas (haha so punny!) In the meantime I'll just tell you a few things about myself:

1.) I like to art.
Yes I know that art isn't technically a verb. It should be, though. Regardless, I love draw/ paint/ doodle. Anytime, anyplace.  Right now I'm really into watercolors, but I also love making things. Expect DIY's. Always crafty, never trashy.
2.) I love music
I have a realllly broad range in what I like to listen to, generally it's more folksy/ alternative, and I might occasionally enjoy some more mainstream pop but I usually get tired of it pretty quick.
3.) I also like to sing!!
Both my parents have good singing voices and are fairly musical, so I grew up singing. I like to think that I've inherited their musicality and that I can carry a tune ;)
4.) I love adventures.
To me, this could be anything from going on a hike (I love me some nature), to a day/night out on the town. I'm no jet-setter, but I love travel as much as the next girl, and I always enjoy the adventures that other places have to offer!
5.) I'm super shy, but I LOVE to be onstage!
I know, I know.... that's a bit of a contradiction, but it's true. There's just something about standing up in front of the spotlight and the accompanying adrenaline rush that is just sublime. That, and I love the freedom that comes with becoming your character. It gives you the chance to be a completely different person, even if it's just for a couple of acts.
6.) I love animals.
Any type, really. They're just the best. I've always considered myself more of a dog person, but I actually really love cats (part of the inspiration for my blog name~ mostly though, just try picturing cat's wearing pajamas. It'll make your day, I swear.) They're just so... bossy? Spirited? I don't know. They just kind of rule the roost, and aren't afraid to let everyone know. At least my cat does. In addition to my cat, I also have two dogs, and my family keeps hens for eggs.

I decided to stop at 6 things, because six is my favorite number. Wait, does that make seven things about me now? Oh well, I tried. I know this was reallllllly long, I swear I only meant to make a short post.  Oops.
xoxo Sallie
